The Betrothed is a book by Alessandro Manzoni published by the Institute for Geographical Research and Cartographic Studies with 150 illustrations by Gustavino in the text and outside the text reproduced in three colors in photolithography. A tipped-in color reproduction of Hayez's famous portrait of Manzoni.
Edition illustrated by Gustavino of the "Promessi Sposi", republished on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the famous illustrator's death under the auspices of the "Amici del Manzoni" association.
Gustavino, pseudonym of Gustavo Rosso (Turin, 1881 - Milan, 1950), was one of the best-known Italian illustrators of children's literature in the first half of the 20th century. Author of about 9,000 tables, he collaborated with caricatures and drawings for the "Corriere dei Piccoli", for numerous periodicals, including for adults, for the successful series of the "Scala d'oro".
Preface by Alfredo Galletti, text edited by Domenico Bulferetti.
