The ET 101 marked a revolutionary moment in the world of electronic typewriters, launched by Olivetti in 1978. Designed by Marisa Bellisario, this innovative project, led by Filippo Demonte and Gian Luigi Ponzano, led to the creation of a machine that used interchangeable daisy wheel technology for printing, ensuring unprecedented quality and speed. With no video or display, the ET 101 featured a memory for corrections and the ability to store standard sentences, while Mario Bellini's design gave an impression of professionalism and advanced technology.
Launched at SMAU in 1978, it was an immediate success, revitalizing the typewriter market. However, the ET 101's life cycle was relatively short, with Olivetti quickly announcing new models, such as the ET 201 and 221 in 1979, the ET 121 and 231 in 1980, and the ET 225 in 1982, all improving reliability and performance.
But it was the ET 111 model, introduced in 1983, that represented a significant step forward with its increased memory capacity. This renewed model further contributed to the success of the ET line, consolidating Olivetti's position in the electronic typewriter market.
